What do we believe at Ascension?

Our congregation and world-wide church body are founded on the Bible. We believe that Jesus is our Savior and the only way to heaven. Through faith in Jesus, we are united to him and each other.

  • The Bible is the inspired Word of God, without any mistakes or errors. It is God’s unchanging message to all people for all time.

  • We believe in the 3-in-1 God (the triune God) - the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They are co-equal and co-eternal.

  • Jesus is true God and true man. He had to be true God to cover the sins of all people, and he had to be true man to die in our place. He is our Lord and Savior.

  • The Bible can be summed up in the good news that God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

  • The Holy Spirit creates and strengthens saving faith in Jesus through hearing the message of the Bible, in Baptism, and in the Lord’s Supper.

  • Christians will want to gather together regularly around the Word of God for the strengthening of their own trust in Jesus and to encourage others in their faith.

  • Christians do good works, not in order to earn a place in heaven, but out of love and thanks to God who has already given them eternal life as a free gift through Jesus.

  • God takes sin seriously. ​​The final result of sin is not only the end of our earthly life, but eternal death and separation from God in the agony of hell.

  • Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life in the place of every human being. He suffered the punishment of hell for the whole human race when he died on the cross. Through him, you are at peace with God.

  • The Bible teaches us that Jesus offers us his body and blood for the forgiveness of sins in the Lord’s Supper. The Bible also instructs us that receiving the Lord’s Supper together is a public expression of our unity of faith.

  • First and foremost, Lutherans are Christians. Lutheran is named after a monk named Martin Luther who helped reform the Christian Church by bringing back important truths of the Bible that had been ignored, such as being saved by faith through grace.

    At Ascension, we partner with a global community of Christians called the Wisconsin Lutheran Synod to share the Word of God here and throughout the world.
